We will be discussing "The Only Woman in the Room" by Marie Benedict, the story of Hedy Lamaar.

One of the most beautiful women ever to grace the silver screen, Hedy Lamarr also designed a secret weapon against Nazi Germany.

In this portrayal of a lesser-known scientist, Benedict, tells the story of Lamaar, born Hedwig Kiesler, from her late teens in Austria through her success in Hollywood. Born to Jewish parents in a post Vienna neighborhod, Hedy endures her mother's criticism while following her father's encouragement to pursue both science and acting. Her beauty saved her from the rising Nazii party and led to marriage with an Austrian arms dealer, Fritz Mandl.

She devises a plan to flee from their castle in disguise, and the whirlwind escape lands her in Hollywood where she became Hedy Lamaar, screen star.

This is a powerful novel based on the incredible story of the glamour icon and scientist whose groundbreaking invention revolutionized modern communication.
