About the Allene Naphtali Gilman Religious School at Temple Israel

Our Religious School (Pre-K through 7th Grade) takes place on Sunday mornings from 9:00 to 11:30 AM. Pre-K is held monthly. We are  located in the Temple Israel Columbus synagogue at 3100 East Broad.

Children in grades 3rd through 6th also participate in a weekday Hebrew School component.

Students in 8th through 12th grades attend clergy-led classes monthly. They also have leadership opportunities through our Madrichim Program, which allows teens to help younger students and teachers in the classroom during Religious School.

"Temple Israel Columbus is blessed to have found Rabbi Sam Klein as our Rabbi Educator!  Sam's wisdom and warmth are only exceeded by his love of education, community-building, and the Jewish people. Rabbi Klein's presence will maximize the Temple’s clergy capacity and help bring us into our new home and this post-COVID chapter of our lives as a community,” said Senior Rabbi Sharon Mars.

He previously served as a religious school director at a Kol Tikvah in Woodland Hills, CA.

Jennah Scher, Executive Director said, “Rabbi Klein embodies the best practices of 21st century Jewish education and rabbinic professionalism. We are delighted to have him as part of our clergy team at Temple Israel. He will help to broaden our work of melding Jewish tradition with modern practice.”

The Rabbi Educator is responsible for directing the Religious School, oversight of the Youth Program, and overall engagement of youth at Temple Israel. Rabbi Klein’s portfolio also includes crafting innovative educational experiences for students of all ages, pastoral care, and worship.

"Moving to Columbus sight unseen could have been an intimidating endeavor were it not for the incredibly warm reception by the Temple Israel professional team and community members. I am honored, blessed, and thrilled to join them as Rabbi Educator and to meet each of our students in our new synagogue home as they return to religious school this fall,” said Rabbi Klein.
